Continued professional training is important in any profession. CBShiatsu provides a high standard of training for Shiatsu practitioners and teachers. We cover every aspect of clinical practice from technique to diagnosis and from the use of the channels to managing a case history.
All of our trainers have formally studied Classical Oriental Medical Theory to a recognised professional certificate level. All are Shiatsu Society (UK) registered teachers and practise classically based Shiatsu. We have years of clinical practice behind us and, in my own case, fifteen years´ experience as a Shiatsu teacher. Each of us has professional qualifications not only in Shiatsu but at least one other branch of Oriental therapy, thus ensuring a variety of clinical perspectives.
ResearchCBShiatsu Clinical ResearchAll of our trainers are engaged in ongoing clinical research. The purpose of this research is to explore and push forward the boundaries of Shiatsu to their fullest extent, to understand its capabilities and limitations as a tool to enhance and maintain health and well-being and its role in the treatment of specific diseases. We also want to be able to define its clinical place within the broader field of Oriental therapies so to foster and integrated approach to health.
We have developed our own research model, which we use to record, monitor and analyse our own case histories. This process is observed by at least one other trainer and each case covers a course of treatments. These case histories also form an important basis for CBShiatsu training.
Practitioner and teachers who completed the CBShiatsu 12-Day Course may then be invited to join our clinical research programme and contribute to Shiatsu research themselves.
CBShiatsu Research into the Classics of Oriental Medical TheoryThe core principles described in the classic texts of oriental medicine underlie all branches of clinical practice whether it is Shiatsu, Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Diet therapy or Qi Gong. Most of the major classic texts of Oriental medicine posit from the outset palpatory skills as a means of diagnosis and treatment. Shiatsu practitioners should feel confident that their own meridian bodywork lies at the very heart of these Classics.
Examples of the principles and theories researched are Qi – Yin and Yang – Kyo and jitsu Heaven, Earth and Man – The 5 Phases – Spirits, Shen and The Emotions – The Channels – Tsubos/Points – The Triple Burner – The Vital Substances – Full and Empty – Hara Diagnosis – Holistic Diagnosis – The 6 Climates – Patterns of disharmony – The 6 Stages – The 4 Levels – The Dynamics of Energetic Balance – Palpatory Technique. These core theories apply to the pracice of Shiatsu as a meridian therapy.
All of our trainers continue to study the main classic texts of Oriental medicine with regard to deepening their understanding of its view of the body-mind and the holistic, energetic approach to body-work. They are committed to bringing this wisdom to the Shiatsu profession.
SupportThose who have attended our courses will have access to our Support Days. These will take place at regular intervals and practitioners can attend them whenever they wish. Here they will be assisted in the integration of the skills and techniques they have learnt on the course into their own practice. The Support Days will also enable them to meet and make contacts with other Shiatsu therapists.
After completing the CBShiatsu 12-Day Course practitioners will also have access to our latest research and case study material, where they can interact with other colleagues and CBShiatsu trainers, discuss their own cases and share their own experiences.
We feel confident that by engaging in CBShiatsu Training, Research and Support the professional Shiatsu practitioner and teacher will be empowered to do three things:
- Recognise and understand the roots which underlie their own style or school of Shiatsu.
- Develop confidence and efficacy as practitioners.
- Escape the bounds of style altogether by by understanding and appling the core princiles of oriental meridian therapy directly to their own Shiatsu practice.
- Make informed choices about the direction and development of their own practice.
